In front of us flames, we had arrived at Birknau, reception for Auschwitz (26)
"Fire! I can see a fire! I can see a fire!"(22)
The heat, the thirst, the pestilential stench (24)
It seemed like an eternity to me (29)
"Do you see those flames? That's your grave"(28)
"Poor devils, you're going to the crematory."(33)
"Not cry? We're in the threshold of death"(33)
Never shall I forget these things. (32)


Two questions I would like to ask the Holocaust survivors on Monday are:
1. How did you endure all of the pain and injustice you were experiencing? What thing, person, or idea kept you going, motivated to live?

2. How old were you when the Holocaust occurred? Does any one memory from that time still in your mind today?

"Auschwitz sign stolen..." Article Response

In the article " Auschwitz sign stolen: 'Arbeit Macht Frei' slogan sat over German Nazi death camp entrance in Poland" written by Samuel Goldsmith the crime of the world renown sign that was seen before entering into the once largest Jewish death camps, Auschwitz, is looked at and discussed. This act was seen, to a majority of people, as a horrible and heinous crime. The sign that symbolized all the wrong that was done upon the Jewish people during World War II and their perseverance and strength was stolen, cut up, and not to be seen again. Many were very upset at what had happened and demanded the sign back from those who took it away. In my opinion, it was wrong to steal something that meant a lot to many people in the world. As aforementioned the sign represented not only the cruelty of those who lead and supported the continuation and working of these death camps, but the overall determination, might, and wisdom of the many Jewish who were victim under the hands of their captors. To steal something that was so important to history and the lives of other human beings is a definite crime and it should have never been committed.
